An (Insta)nt in Time: February ’16

It’s leap day!

I really do think this should be a holiday for everyone. It only comes around every four years, we all deserve a fun day off, am I right?

As the last day of the month, this brings February to a close. Read on for a round up of my life this month, seen through the filter of an Instagram photo.

It was a short month, as well as a quiet one. Filled with lots of rainy days, I found myself retreating indoors to read and express my creative side.

I’ve been working on my hand lettering and calligraphy skills recently. With modern calligraphy, there are so many different styles of lettering, it is fascinating to see how people illustrate the same letters and phrases. My instagram feed is now filled with various shots and videos of lettering. I decided to take a crack at it and join the #letteritfebruary challenge from Jenny Highsmith (whose designs are beautiful!).

I’ve been wanting to bake madeleines for awhile now, I miss eating them everyday! I received a tray for Christmas and decided to give it a try! They were easier to make than I thought they would be, however, they definitely weren’t the best madeleines I’ve had. They sure were pretty, though! Practice will make perfect (and give me a full stomach)!

As a child, I basically memorized all of “A Light in the Attic” by Shel Silverstein. Practicing my tones and rhythm as I read aloud, I tried to emulate Silverstein’s voice on the accompanying CD. I read each poem over and over, wearing down the spine. It’s been awhile since I’ve taken the time to read his poems, I decided to delve in and get inspired by his carefree manner and musical cadence.

Now, the days are getting warmer and spring is nearly here! I ate my lunch outside yesterday and am looking forward to many more days spent in the sun.
